Located in historic Rotherhithe the museum is on the site of the only project both Marc and Isambard Kingdom Brunel worked on together, the Thames Tunnel. Near Rotherhithe is the slipway where the Great Eastern was launched from, Isambard's Hungerford Bridge and Tower Bridge which Isambard's son Henry worked on as a structural engineer. A little further South is Crystal Palace where Isambard built the water towers and then in West London is Isambard's most famous creation - Paddington, the start of the Great Western Railway. London has enormous association with the Brunels.
The museum is open from 10:00 to 17:00 seven days a week with frequent special events both public and also for the Friends of the Brunel Museum such as the Big Draw, Open House weekend and Open Garden Squares weekend. The museum has also been used by corporates for much filming, book launches and functions.
The museum has a big presence in the local community running play schemes in the summer holiday and welcoming schools throughout the year as part of Key Stage 2 history. The museum also provides visiting speakers to organisations throughout London.
