Director’s Diary: Russian Revolution, American Songbook

This week more film, theatre, politics and film installation in the Grand Entrance Hall and with a fanfare the Totally Thames Festival closes for another year. The Festival goes from strength to strength and The Brunel Museum has hosted a wide variety of shows and installations every evening. Audience numbers are higher than ever before, but all the time the Grand Entrance Hall has been open through the day for regular Museum visitors, so a huge vote of thanks to our volunteers.

Next week more artistic offerings from film to song book to sacred music.

Russian Revolution 1917: Here & Now looks at the lasting effects of 1917. Presented by the Anglo Russian Culture Club

American Song Book: An evening of avant-garde American song presented by Lucy Goddard. Extracts from Michael Finnissy’s Whitman and world premieres of Laura Bowler’s A Damned Mob of Scribbling Woman and Christopher Mayo’s Universal Food Machine.

Time & Tide: Collegium Musicum of London offer a new version of Elgar’s majestic Sea Pictures, arranged for choir and piano by Donald Fraser. Also works by Thomas Weelkes, Hassler, Vaughan Williams and Purcell – and some popular surprises.

But just as important, a Trustees meeting to discuss plans for improving visitor facilities and museum interpretation and an exciting auction!
