Children learn through play at the Brunel Museum Play scheme
Every school holiday we run playschemes and craft workshops. Summer of 2019 local children celebrated the Thames Tunnel Fancy Fair of 1852, with games and performance.
Children are supervised at all times and parents/carers register their child at the start of each day. As usual we work principally with 7 -11 year old children from the local area. The activities take place inside the museum and outside on the paved and grassed areas. Children wear old and comfortable clothes for messy work, and bring their own packed lunch. We provide drinks for morning and afternoon breaks. Numbers are limited to 30 places.
With the children’s help we are turning the area around the Museum into a garden for everyone to use. The children had a wonderful time. This year’s summer playscheme is now over, but we look forward to welcoming children to the Museum and gardens next holidays.
We gratefully acknowledge the support of London Borough of Southwark, Rotherhithe Community Council & North Southwark Environment Trust.
